Pope Francis has appointed a new bishop to the diocese of Moroto, Uganda, following the resignation of Mgr. Henry Apaloryamam Ssen-tongo, for reasons of age. The new bishop of this Ugandan diocese is to be the Comboni Missionary Fr. Damiano Giulio Guzzetti.
He was born on July 15, 1959, at Turate, in Milan Archdiocese and joined our novitiate in 1983; he made his first religious profession on May 25, 1985, and took perpetual vows on March 27, 1989. He studied philosophy in Uganda at Ggaba Major Seminary, Kampala (1986-1988), and theology in Kenya at Tangaza College, Nairobi (1988-1989). He was ordained priest on September 23, 1989.
After his ordination, from 1989 to 1994, he worked in Italy in mission and vocations promotion. In 1994, he returned to Uganda where he was the first curate at Namalu and Naoi and the parish priest at Matany, in the diocese of Moroto. Member of the Provincial Council of Uganda Province for the triennium 2009-2014, he was also formator at the Postulancy as well as being bursar and teacher at the Queen of Apostles Philosophy Centre at Jinja.
