Providing clean water to missionaries
Two months. That’s all the time it took for you – friends and benefactors of the Comboni Missionaries – to fully fund (and then double!), a water filtration project for refugees living in Uganda.
Next month a volunteer with Water with Blessings will travel to Uganda to deliver 500 water filters to the South Sudanese refugees taking shelter in Moyo. He will teach the people how to use the filters, and each filter will be able to provide clean water for several families.
Thank you so much for helping us bring water to God’s thirsty children!
But our work continues. When more than 1 million South Sudanese people fled their homes after a brutal civil war between two government factions in South Sudan threatened their lives, our missionaries went with them.
Just as the people left with only the items they could carry, so did our missionaries.
Sadly, this happens all too often in places where those in control value money and power more than human life.
As we continue to honor the legacy of our founder, St. Daniel Comboni, during the 150 Year anniversary of the establishment of his institute, help us provide water filters to Comboni Missionary Priests, Sisters, and Brothers living among the people they serve.
These filters – the same that were sent to refugees in Uganda – will go to missionaries living in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Central African Republic, and South Sudan, so that anytime they are forced to flee in the night, our missionaries will at least be able to have clean water for themselves and the people they serve.
Please consider donating to our newly established 150 Year Anniversary Fund. For just $60, one missionary could be blessed with a life-saving water filtration system – which, they in turn, can use for their communities. And with access to safe water, these individuals will no longer need to worry about water-borne illnesses that can cause severe illness and even death.
We also need your prayers. Pray for peace where there is war. Pray for food where there is famine. Pray for the presence of God where hope seems lost.
The Comboni Missionaries in North American are partnering with Water with Blessings, a non-profit group in Northern Kentucky that provides easy-to-use water filtration systems to those who need it most.
TheWater with Blessingswebsite says: “Using technology inspired by our own biology, the Sawyer PointONE filter system functions much like kidney dialysis does to filter out impurities in the water, leaving clean, drinkable water. This amazingly effective filter can be set up in five minutes. It requires only a 5-gallon container and the filtration kit. It is simple enough that adults of all education levels can learn how to use it. No electricity and no complicated maintenance to guarantee a lifetime of clean, safe water!”
