Support for Uganda's future doctors
For several years now six young men in Uganda, all from the West Nile region, have been undertaking medical studies. West Nile is the size of Hawaii and home to 2.6 million people. For all of these 2.6 million, there are only 25 doctors!
These young men want to make a difference where they live, they want to help their people. Encouraged by their spirit and dedication an Italian benefactor sponsored these six students. Unfortunately, that benefactor died unexpectedly and left no directives regarding the students’ future tuition. The students are thus in limbo with the very real possibility of having to return home without completing their education.
This is a tragedy for them but also for the thousands of people in West Nile whose lives could have been radically improved if not saved through the intervention of even just these six young men.
Understanding this, the Comboni Missionaries, who are present in West Nile, have decided to step into the breach, and have already secured a $30,000 pledge from a Cincinnati couple familiar with the situation. Another benefactor stepped forward to cover $8,000 more. We are left with a balance of $9,850. If we are able to raise this, all six students will be able to complete their studies. Your generosity in helping these students finish their medical studies will benefit the people of the West Nile region for generations.
The people these young men will be able to help — the subsistence farmers, the young mothers, the infants saved — will know a life that’s better, and even perhaps know life itself as opposed to death, because of your kindness.
